Justin Bieber’s Someday wins Best Celebrity Fragrance

18 May

He’s conquered the music charts and now Justin Bieber is taking the perfume world by storm.

Last night the 18-year-old beat David Beckham and Kim Kardashian as his debut scent Someday was branded Best New Celebrity Fragrance 2012 by the Fragrance Foundation UK.

And the Canadian will also be receiving the highly coveted Elizabeth Taylor award at the 40th annual FiFi event held in New York next week, which honours those who have helped promote the world of perfumery.

His female scent described as ‘playful, fresh yet flirty and anything but ordinary’, smashed records back in June 2011, raking in $3 million in just three weeks at Macy’s in U.S.

And this month in the UK it sold out instantly, after the star himself  deemed it ‘irresistible’.

Commenting on his cluster of awards, Bieber said: ‘I am honoured to be named Elizabeth Taylor Fragrance Celebrity of the Year. It means a lot to me that my fans and The Fragrance Foundation support all my accomplishments.

‘The best part is that my favorite charities are sharing in the success; it is important to pay it forward. Plus, I have the girls smelling great!’

Last year, Halle Berry responsible for a trio of scents – Halle by Halle Berry, Pure Orchid and Reveal – took home the title.

Bieber is also in the running for the luxe women gong, competing against Beyoncé’s Pulse, Bottega Veneta, Prada Candy and Tom Ford Violet Blonde.

Proceeds from perfume sales have benefited Pencils of Promise, an education-based charity organization that helps helps build schools all over the world.

Explaining the thought behind Someday, Bieber said it is about hope and dream.

‘It explains a dream. Someday I will drive a BMW. Someday I will be an astronaut. In the commercial, (co-star Dree’s) Someday was meeting me.

‘So when she sprayed on the perfume, I appeared in the room and we floated off into this place. That’s what I perceive it as.’

According to reviews, the fragrance starts off with notes of mandarin, pear and wild berries and ends with warm hints of vanilla and soft musk.

Justin Bieber releases song in honor of single moms

11 May

Justin Bieber’s latest love song isn’t for girlfriend Selena Gomez — it’s for his mom, Pattie Mallette.

Bieber has released a special Mother’s Day song called “Turn To You” about how hard his mom worked to raise him as a single mom, after having him at the young age of 18.

“You worked two jobs/ To keep a roof above our heads/ You chose/ A life for me no you never gave up/ I admire you/ For the strength you’ve instilled in me,” Bieber sings on the heartfelt, mid-tempo track. “You were so young/ You were just my age when you had me mom.”

Bieber talked to MTV about the song in advance of its release today.

“She had me at like the age I am now,” he said. “[The song is about] the struggles she went through and how brave she was, and I think the world needed to know that.”

Bieber plans to donate the proceeds from “Turn To You” to charity, to go toward single mothers in need.

The singer’s next full album, “Believe,” will be released on June 19.

Justin B – Teen Heartthrob, Disruptive Innovator

27 Apr

Justin Bieber is credited with a lot of things — having good hair, singing catchy tunes, and getting girls to go wild. But today he and his manager, Scooter Braun, were recognized for something a bit different — being “disruptive innovators.”

Along with other leaders and entrepreneurs, including Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey and filmmaker and actor Ed Burns, Bieber and Braun accepted Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Awards. The awards, which are symbolically in the shape of a hammer, honor those who have disrupted industry with new technologies, ideas, and strategies. Harvard Business School Professor and author Clayton Christensten coined the term “disruptive innovation” and spoke at the event.

Bieber and Braun spoke to how the Internet help them rise to fame. Braun discovered Justin Bieber on YouTube and Bieber is well known for his obsessive use of Twitter to communicate and make fans.

“For me, I need to interact with my fans. I take time out of my day to reweet fans,” Bieber said speaking at the event at New York University.

And now Bieber and Braun are using the Web and social media to find even more talent. The two of them discovered up-and-coming singer Carly Rae Jepsen on YouTube and are now “paying it forward,” says Braun. Jepsen signed with Braun’s record label in February.

Twenty-eight others were honored with disruptive innovator hammers at the ceremony. But Bieber might have just summed up all of the recipients’ accomplishments the best: “I wouldn’t be here without the Internet.”

Justin Bieber Reaches 20 Million Twitter Followers

16 Apr

Canadian teenybopper Justin Bieber has become the second Twitter user to reach the 20 million follower mark, passing the milestone late last week. Bieber joins Lady Gaga as the only other member of Twitter’s 20 million club, with Katy Perry likely to join them towards the end of May.

However, it’s not all sunshine and glory at the top-end of Twitter’s most-followed list – following an altercation with a user, hip hop star Nicki Minaj has deleted her Twitter account… and with it her 11 million fans.

Minaj became upset when the @NickiDaily profile (now removed, along with their website) started posting snippets from her new album on Twitter. After initially ranting in a series of tweets, Minaj then deleted her profile.

Boca school gets Bieber fever as teen idol lines up visit

13 Apr

President Barack Obama created a stir earlier this week in Boca Raton. Now comes Justin Bieber.

The cherubic teen prince of pop will visit St. Andrew’s School in Boca Raton on Friday to congratulate three students who raised $51,738 for Pencils of Promise, one of Bieber’s favorite charities.

The winning students: Briana Finocchiaro, 12, and her twin siblings, Angelia and Nicolas, ages 9.

The siblings raised the money by asking family, friends and neighbors in a web page they set up for the organization. Donations ranged from $20 to $10,000.

“Our family is so very blessed and we attend the most wonderful school,” they wrote on their site. “However, there are more than 75 million children without access to education. With your help, we can make a difference in their lives.” Their mother, MaryJo Finocchiaro, is on the school’s search committee.

Officials at the school, which has students in grades kindergarten through 12th, were tight-lipped about Bieber’s scheduled visit.

He will be there with Adam Braun, who founded Pencils of Promise in October 2008 just before his 25th birthday. The nonprofit group has built more than 25 schools around the world, including in Guatemala, Nicaragua and Laos

Braun got the idea when he was backpacking across six continents. In India, he met a boy and asked him what he wanted most. The boy replied, “a pencil,” according to Braun’s website.

During his travels, Braun began giving away pens and pencils to parents and children. He wanted to motivate other members of the millennial generation — people ages18-29 — to help children who do not have access to basic education.

Braun used $25 to create his organization and began fundraising. In its first year, the group built three schools. The majority of donations have come in small amounts such as $15 and $25.

Bieber, 18, has been a big supporter and has attended fundraisers for the organization. He has also agreed to visit schools such as St. Andrew’s that help.

“Justin has been our largest individual supporter,” Braun wrote in an email, adding that the singer has brought “huge awareness and momentum towards the issue of education for children in poverty worldwide.”

St. Andrew’s will hold Bieber’s event in the Roberts Theatre, where students in grades 3-8 will attend in addition to 100 upper school students, according to a letter sent to parents. The rest of the school will watch a telecast of the visit in nearby band rooms. The event is expected to run from 1 to 2 p.m.

Parents won’t be able to attend the presentation, nor will the media. The school is working with the singer’s private security and the Boca Raton Police Department.

Sandra Boonenberg, a Boca police spokeswoman, said the department will have a “fair size” number of officers in the area but wouldn’t elaborate.

“We will have regular road patrol officers in the area and officers at the school who will be helping them out with security,” said Boonenberg. There will be no road closures.

On Thursday, students and parents were buzzing about Bieber’s visit. Some fans took to social media to express their Bieber fever.

“You should also come to west Boca!!,” wrote one teen yesterday.

Pencils of Promise also thanked the Finocchiaro siblings with a Twitter message that read “Thanks for helping us build 14 schools.”

St. Andrew’s parent Stephanie Lowen said her children and their classmates were excited about the charity and Bieber’s visit.

“It’s good for the kids to see a public figure who is giving of himself and they can get involved with that,” said Lowen, a mother of three children at the school.  “I like the message that the visit is connected with a charity, not just ‘we’re bringing you a star.’”

Pattie Mallette, Mother of Justin Bieber, to Pen Memoir

30 Mar

Come September, Justin Bieber will no longer be his family’s only author.

The superstar, who signed a second book deal last month, will soon need to make room for his mother, Pattie Mallette. Her memoir “Nowhere But Up: The Story of Justin Bieber’s Mom,” will come out on 9/18/12 and center on her journey from a troubled teen… to the single parent of a global sensation.

Referring to others that have suffered through similar experiences – abuse, trauma, addiction – Pattie says of the book: “I want them to see that no matter how desperate their circumstances may be, they can have hope for a better future.”

Agrees Jennifer Leep, the editorial director at publishing company Revell:

“Pattie’s story is a powerful example of courage and determination that will inspire anyone who has faced struggles in life. She’s living proof that even in the darkest of places, there is always room for hope.”

Justin Bieber to Be Sued Over Cell Phone Prank?

27 Mar

Justin Bieber may be all about practical jokes these days – check out this clip from the season premiere of Punk’d- but at least two people in Texas don’t fight the singer very funny.

Last month, Bieber sent out nine-tenths of a phone number, along with the message “Call me right now.” Naturally – despite the Tweet being taken down soon after it went live – many teenage girls followed this advice, simply guessing the identity of the final digit.

Unfortunately for Bieber (and even more unfortunately for the countless fans hoping to hear his sweet, sexy voice), two residents in Texas – identified by TMZ as Dilcie and Kent – are now threatening legal action against the star because their phones won’t stop ringing.

A lawyer for these plaintiffs says his clients demand compensation for the fact that they are receiving up to 1,000 phone calls per day. What does the attorney suggest?

Concert ticks, an apology from Bieber or, of course, straight up cash.

No word yet from Justin’s camp, excerpt perhaps a bit of laughter over just how absurd these charges would sound if ever brought to court.

No point hiding relationship: Justin Bieber

23 Mar

Singer Justin Bieber says it would be “unfair” and “unhealthy” to hide his relationship with Selena Gomez.

The couple started dating in 2010, and are often photographed holding hands or enjoying quality time together.

The 18-year-old Bieber said he does not mind, reported femalefirst.

“There’s no way to hide the relationship completely, because then it would be unfair to us,” he said.

“It’s like, ‘You take this car, and I’ll take this car, and then we’ll meet up at the spot. Then, you go in this door, I’ll go in this door. We’ll end up crossing ways. You get back in this car. We’ll cross over, do a James Bond. You go through the kitchen. I’ll go through the back area. Then we’ll meet in the dressing room and see each other.”

“At that point, it’s not even a relationship. You’re just hiding from everyone. That’s unfair and unhealthy,” he said.

Justin Bieber joins Selena Gomez

17 Mar

They may be in different locations for their respective work but Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez are doing their best to keep the romance in their relationship alive.

Selena, 19, who is currently filming her latest movie Spring Breakers in Florida, recently jetted back to Los Angeles for a night to help her beau ring in his 18th birthday.

And now Justin has returned the favour and travelled to St Petersburg to spend some quality time with his squeeze.

The couple spent the weekend on a fishing trip with their families, but seemed to be relishing some alone time today.

As Selena had the morning off filming this morning, Justin was seen visiting his girlfriend in her trailer.

He emerged 40 minutes later looking slightly sheepish as he covered up with an umbrella.

Selena then exited the trailer shortly afterwards, shielding her face with a packet of gummy bears, although she did appear to have something of a spring in her step as she prepared to get back to work.

The pair were seen earlier taking a romantic stroll around the set in the sunshine.

Selena was dressed casually in a navy baggy jumper, daisy dukes and a pair of grey slipper boots to hang out with her beau, who wore a varsity style jacket, camouflage trousers and a black knitted beanie hat.

The former Wizards of Waverly Place star then made a change as she got ready for filming, donning a skimpy outfit of a T-shirt with a picture of dogs on the front, as well as tiny cut-off blue shorts and grey high top trainers with neon detailing.

She shielded her eyes from the sun’s rays with a pair of psychedelic sunglasses that had blue lenses and green arms.

Her co-stars Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Benson were also wearing barely there outfits when they were spotted taking a lunch break on set.

Vanessa, 23, wore a blue crop top and yellow shorts while Ashley was seen rocking a pink top and daisy dukes.

The duo have also recently received visits on set from their respective boyfriends.

Vanessa was spotted in a racy liplock with Austin Butler outside her trailer while Ashley spent a romantic meal with her beau Ryan Good, who just so happens to be Justin Bieber’s stylist.

The film’s plot revolves around the four friends, who decide the only way they’ll be able to afford a fabulous spring break is to commit a robbery.

They are saved by a crazy arms dealer played by James Franco who then recruits them to do his nefarious bidding.

Justin Bieber Forms ‘Supergroup’ with Adam Levine

16 Mar

Justin Bieber obviously has a magnetic personality. Somehow, this young man has managed to pull some of the biggest names in the music industry into the studio with him. Have you ever heard of one singer collaborating with so many different groups and singers? Not to mention, it is quite the eclectic group of individuals he is working with. A bit of everything the music world has to offer.

Adam Levine is the latest singer to hang out in the studio with the Biebs. According to Justin, they have united with Kenny Hamilton to form a “supergroup.” Adam jokes Kenny is the lead singer of this new group. What kind of collaboration could these guys be working on now? It seems like with all the special guests invited into the studio, Justin is going to need to put out two albums.

Adam and Justin have spent a couple of nights in the studio together, and both sound pretty excited with what they have put together. Justin sent out a message to the Maroon 5 singer, “Adam Levine I don’t think the world is ready for this supergroup.”

Justin’s pal, Alfredo Flores, adds to the excitement with his own message about watching the supergroup do their thing, “in person is one of the most life changing experiences. Speechless.” Beliebers are going crazy while they wait for Justin’s new album to drop. His first single, “Boyfriend,” will be out in 12 days. This single will give fans and haters just a glimpse of what is to come.

Justin Bieber is getting ready to show the world he is more than just a pretty face and a gorgeous head of hair. He is going to prove he has the talent to make it in the music business, despite his young age and unconventional beginnings.
