25 NovThere I was, lying on my sofa, watching the final of “Dancing With The Stars” (acceptable behavior, I was ill – even getting to my sofa involved massive effort) and up pops Vernon Kay.
Yes, our Vernon. On American Network TV. I swear he’s been told to tone down his accent. And what about Tess? Still languishing on Strictly? Anyway, he’s presenting the imaginatively titled “Skating With The Stars”. This is “Dancing On Ice”, but without Torvill & Dean. I’m not sure Americans know who they are, but the programme missed them.
Anyway, when I was little I clearly wanted to be Torvill. After irritating my Mum I went ice skating.
I didn’t want to be Torvill anymore.
However, the majority of people are far more coordinated than me and there are some beautiful ice rinks that pop up this time of year. The Winchester Cathedral Ice Rink has to be one of the most picturesque in the world. The Cathedral dates back to 1079 and is renowned for its six stunning chantry chapels, dating from the mid 14th century to the early 16th century. Go if you’re nearby – it has to be an unforgettable experience and quite wonderful near Christmas time.
Of course, this glam ice skating snowball was all started at Somerset House. And its actually very good for those who’d rather not hang out on the ice – there are winter warmers galore at Tom’s Skate Lounge and at the Tiffany Tuck Shop you will find exclusively designed cupcakes, sweets and jewellery. Perfect for date night or the family day out (especially if you have a Tricky Teenage Daughter in tow – it has to be too cool for school if Harper’s Bazaar raves about it).
Enjoy…!

11 OctThe Perfect Website…
… For Your Yummy Mummy
Mums are great, aren’t they? And they’re sort of now beginning to realize how the Internet can work for them (I sense collective teenage shuddering over parental Facebook “friend requests”).
The site has rapidly developed a following and has a number of high profile writers. Definitely somewhere to point your Mum in the direction of…

24 MaySecrets Of Make Up Artists…
Some of the tricks of the trade are fascinating. It’s also interesting to note that every make up artist I’ve worked with has a supply of both pricey and value items.
First trick up is primer. I’ve always been a bit lazy doing this bit (could be a reason why I look so dreadful normally!). The most delicious brand I’ve had used on me is by MAC, but there are some good High Street ones at Boots – go play.
Next tip is – blend. Have an array of sponges and brushes to make sure your facepaint looks less “Jersey Shore” more “The City”!
Where you really don’t need to splurge is mascara and lipgloss. The most important thing is just to make sure you change it regularly. I love Maybelline for my eyes and Rimmel for my lips.
Also, have a look at products from smaller make up companies. Last friday I was introduced to the divine Yin Yang Cosmetics. And, I know it’s pricey, but Space NK is an amazing place to go to have a nose around for some boutique brands.
Enjoy ladies. We need to love the skin we’re in…

28 AprCrackberry: All Questions Answered
I’m a Blackberry girl, no question about it. I managed to produce a West End show single handedly, without an office or an assistant. This would not have been possible without lack of sleep for months – and my Crackberry. A whole chapter in my Single Girl’s Guide was basically devoted to the minefield of dealing with dating using this device.
Now, by a fortunate train of events that I’m not quite sure I understand, I am the proud possessor of a brand spanking new Blackberry Bold 9700. Not only that, Blackberry sent a man called Jon round to teach me how to use it.
Although I have been a Crackberry user for many years, I am not so proud as to pretend that I probably do not get everything I could out of my phone. I mean, I BBM (NEVER put a man you like on your Blackberry Messenger – the trauma if he’s read your message but not replied is almost too much to bear) and am very good at setting up ringtones for different people/projects, but there are clearly gaps in my knowledge.
The first thing to do to get the most out of your phone, is to go to your web connection and click on the bookmarked Blackberry Homepage site. This will then take you to Blackberry applications. Yes, applications.
It’s not just iphone (and a Crackberry has battery life unlike its competitor) which has applications. There are tons of free ones that you can download for your Crackberry (paying ones too, if you’re interested). I’m addicted to the recommended Twitter and Weather applications and as for my new Google Maps… LOVE IT. 3G makes everything go very speedily indeed. Then there’s diary managing, music listening and all sorts.
Point being, if you’re a Crackberry addict but envious of iphone applications, have a little nosey around the Blackberry applications site before you switch brands. You might be surprised about what you find.
There are 2 things though that Blackberry still want to work on. I did a poll of my friends and they would like to be able to do the following with their ‘Berries: 1. Forward a message and fiddle with its text; 2. Have specific message tones to specific people on your BBM (useful if you have made the schoolgirl error and put a man you like on there).
So there we go. Overall though, I really do love my Blackberry.

Best Indy Movie Of 2010 (So Far!)
Merchant Ivory. Filmmakers whose “brand” for so long was synonymous with everything that was right about independent films – but who, in recent times, have perhaps not had the success of yesteryear.
“A Room With A View” is one of my favourite films of all time. I clearly wanted to be Lucy Honeychurch growing up. That scene where she’s kissing Julian Sands at the end – I’m still waiting to be romanced like that. And oh, the supporting cast. Denholm Elliot, Simon Callow and as for those scenes with Dames Maggie and Judi - sheer acting perfection. However, I was working in film when “The White Countess” landed on my desk a few years ago. The company I was working for passed on it – we really didn’t get it.
Last week, I was lucky enough to attend a screening of Merchant Ivory’s latest – “The City Of Your Final Destination”. I adored it. Beautifully paced, wonderfully nuanced, I really do hope it finds the audience it deserves. Watch out for the always brilliant Laura Linney’s performance. It’s the first film completed without Ismail Merchant but I do hope James Ivory keeps on putting out such wonderful work. Film will be a poorer place without him if he stops.
